Including Loved Ones in Your OKC Maternity Photoshoot

Thinking about having your partner and kiddos join your maternity photoshoot? My answer is always “Absolutely!” Bringing your favorite people into this beautiful, growing-belly chapter of your life will ramp up the authenticity, warmth, and even a little bit of that wonderful family chaos in your maternity photos. Seriously, as a mom of two boys myself, I totally get the fun pandemonium that comes with raising a family. And honestly, who doesn’t adore a picture that perfectly captures the gorgeous mess of a family in the making?!

Forget stressing about outfits or poses, as your OKC photographer, I’m ready for the fun of a family photoshoot at my studio. With some easy tips and tricks, I can help you capture amazing family photos and keep everyone happy.

Of course, partners and kiddos are welcome to jump in, but let’s remember who the real VIP is: YOU! That glowing bump is the main focus, and I’m here to make sure you, mama, are the star of the show.

Timeless Maternity Photoshoot Ideas for Siblings and Spouses

We’re aiming to capture real, loving interactions, not stuffy card photos. We love warmth and connection, so let’s skip the posed, stiff smiles. I’ll help you with interactions with your spouse that look natural and authentic during your maternity photoshoot.

Maternity Photo Ideas with Spouses:

  • Belly Embrace: Having your partner come from behind and wrap their arms around your bump, this is a simple and intimate pose that is always a favorite.
  • Forehead to Forehead: Having you both gently lean in together with one hand on your belly is soft, emotional, and connected.
  • Kissing while Gazing: Your partner kisses you while looking down at your growing belly. This is sweet and romantic without being overly posed.

Maternity Poses with Siblings:

  • Hugging Your Bump: Having your child wrap their arms around your bump for a tender and emotional shot.
  • Kissing the Belly: Little ones love this pose! Ask them to give your belly a gentle kiss. This is perfect for toddlers.
  • Holding the Sonogram: Having siblings help hold the sonogram while resting their head on your belly.

Since “sit still” and kids are basically opposites, we’re going to embrace play! I love getting those candid shots of your kids engaging with you and your belly. The goal is to make them feel like they’re part of something special, not just another family photo op.

Combined Family Poses:

  • Hands All In: Everyone is placing their hands on your belly.
  • Lifting Siblings for a Belly Kiss: Having your partner lift your little one to kiss your belly can be adorable and visually dynamic!
  • Walking as a Family: Walking hand in hand with siblings in front of or between you and your partner, this is a beautiful and natural way to capture those candid shots!

Prepping Little Ones for Your Maternity Photos

Kids will be kids, one minute they’re all smiles, and the next they’re having a total meltdown because, let’s be honest, the snack container is the wrong color. Having your kids prepared is ideal for a stress-free and fun photoshoot for everyone.  Having little ones myself, here are some of my tips for creating memorable and fun photos together!

  1. Keep Expectations Light: Kids don’t have to pose perfectly, and that’s ok! Having a few practice poses in your own home can be helpful and help kids know what to expect during the actual session.
  2. Bring Snacks: A full belly, happy kid! Packing easy and non-messy snacks and their favorite juice or water bottle will help keep them comfortable throughout the session.
  3. Prepare for Breaks: Kids need a little rest sometimes, and that’s totally normal. A few minutes of exploring or playing on their own can help them re-engage.
  4. Schedule the Sessions Around THEIR Time: Avoid nap times or late evenings. Try to aim for their happiest point in the day whenever that is possible.
  5. Stay Calm and Patient: Kids feed off of your energy. Keeping your vibes positive and relaxed helps everyone (including you and your partner) feel more at ease.

Including your kids in your maternity session is totally doable, and it doesn’t have to be a headache! With a bit of planning and a lot of positive vibes, those moments can actually turn into the sweetest part of your photos. The Emotional Benefit of Including Family

Bringing your partner or kids into your maternity photoshoot adds a beautiful, emotional layer to your story. These photos end up being more than just about your growing bump; they really capture the love, support, and bond of your entire family.

When your loved ones are by your side, it can help you feel more relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera, which results in those truly authentic and heartfelt pictures. It’s all about capturing those real-life moments: the laughs, the spur-of-the-moment kisses, and yes, even the playful messiness of kids just doing their thing! These true, unscripted moments are what make your photographs unique and special.
