Those early postpartum weeks are quiet, tender, and impossibly fleeting, a season that feels slow in the middle of all-night feedings, yet somehow passes in the blink of an eye. Bringing a new baby home turns your world upside down in the sweetest way possible. Those tiny fingers, sleepy sighs, and delicate lashes change faster than you can keep up with.
Are you trying to figure out how to freeze your baby’s tiny features in time? As an Oklahoma City newborn photographer, I’m here to help you pause this fleeting chapter so you can hold onto it forever. To remember the soft weight of them resting in your arms, to cherish how unbelievably tiny they once were and to relive exactly how it felt to fall in love in those first quiet days.
Your session with me is completely guided and stress free. As a pediatric RN, safety certified photographer, and two time Best of the 405 winner, I take care of every detail so you can sit back and soak in the moment. (And yes, I mean actually sit back and relax! I’ve even had parents take a little nap while babies are being photographed!)
Because these early days pass so quickly, planning a photo session for newborn babies requires thoughtful timing. Every stage of infancy brings its own unique magic, and choosing the right window ensures you capture the exact look, feel, and style you dream of for your baby’s very first gallery.

What makes the 7 to 18 day window so magical? By day 7, your baby’s stomach has grown enough to hold a full feeding, helping them stay deeply satisfied and settled for longer stretches. During these early weeks, newborns are wonderfully sleepy, flexible, and still close to their birth weight. They naturally curl up into those soft, snuggly poses, giving us a sweet look at their soft cheeks, delicate hair, and every tiny newborn detail.
Because safety is always my highest priority, you can rest completely easy while your baby slumbers. I have a background as a Pediatric RN, so your tiny miracle is always in the gentlest, most qualified hands.
When swaddled up cozy, babies melt so easily into gentle, soothing movements. If you’re curious about your little one’s early sleep rhythms or growth milestones, HealthyChildren.org from the American Academy of Pediatrics is a wonderful, trustworthy resource for new parents.
Did you know that every single week of your baby’s life brings new physical milestones? Understanding what happens during each phase helps you set realistic expectations for your gallery.
Are you dreaming of those posed, squishy, and deeply sleeping portraits? At 5 to 18 days old this window offers maximum flexibility for classic studio photos while baby sleeps soundly through gentle posing and wrapped setups.
What happens if your baby stays awake during the shoot? By 3-4 weeks old, babies become much more aware of their surroundings. You will see more stretched out poses and open eyed portraits. We still capture gorgeous newborn pictures during this phase using soft wraps and cozy family cuddles.
Wondering if your baby is already “too old” for a portrait shoot? Not at all! At 5-8 weeks old, babies display big personalities, social smiles, and direct eye contact. While they might not curl into tiny prop setups, these sessions focus heavily on authentic connection, baby details, and family love.
Are you welcoming double the baby love into your family? I do love a good two-for-one special! Twin sessions require extra hands! Whenever I photograph twins, I bring a dedicated studio assistant along. This ensures both babies are constantly spotted, cozy, and gently soothed through every single pose.

How do we create a gallery that fits seamlessly into your home? When planning a photo session for newborn families, I guide you through every step during our consultation so you never have to guess what to do. From color palettes to wardrobe choices, everything is completely customized to you.
You don’t need to worry about buying special outfits! Everything is provided for you, wraps, soft textures, and complete styling are all included at the studio. I simply recommend dressing your baby in loose fitting, button up or zip pajamas when you arrive. This avoids any temporary marks on their delicate skin from tight clothing like onesies.
Family and sibling portraits are often some of the most meaningful images we create. We typically start with family and sibling photos first so everyone can relax and settle in right away. Once we capture those sweet sibling cuddles, big brothers and sisters are free to play or relax while we focus on baby’s individual portraits. Sometimes one parent will take the kids for lunch or have a grandparents take them home too. Whatever is best for your family!
Your newborn photos are meant to be seen, felt, and lived with every day, not tucked away forgotten on a screen. Immediately after your session, we sit down together for your guided reveal and ordering appointment. You’ll view your full gallery and select your favorite images as we design custom artwork and heirloom pieces for your walls. When should you reserve your spot on the studio calendar? Most of my families reserve their newborn session during their second trimester to make sure they have a spot reserved.
I intentionally take a limited number of newborns each month. This allows me to give every single family a calm, unhurried, and boutique experience. Due to sessions being so relaxed, spots do tend to fill up quickly.
Wouldn’t you rather enjoy total peace of mind after giving birth? When you are wondering when to do newborn pictures during pregnancy, booking early gives you one less thing to manage later. You do not need to lock in a firm calendar date while pregnant. Instead, I reserve a flexible window around your estimated due date so you can simply send a text when your precious baby arrives!
What can you do as a parent to ensure a smooth, relaxing studio experience? A calm environment makes all the difference when photographing tiny babies. Preparing for a photo session for newborn families begins with a few simple steps. I recommend you feed baby right before you leave home or as soon as you arrive. A full belly will help them drift into a deep, happy sleep. Did you know studio temperatures stay extra warm to keep newborns comfortable? Wear light, breathable layers so you stay cool while we capture your family portraits. You get to sit back, rest, and enjoy being pampered while I handle all the soothing and posing!

Did your baby arrive early, have an unexpected NICU stay, or did postpartum recovery take longer than expected? But what if your baby is already here? Don’t stress! Reach out anyway. If I have availability, I will absolutely take care of you.
Please remember that you have not missed your chance for sweet newborn pictures. There is no expiration date on documenting your child’s beginning. While older newborns spend more time awake, they have stronger eye contact, and cute yawns. Plus unposed family snuggles often create candid moments you’ll never forget.
Knowing when to do newborn pictures helps you plan your family’s experience with complete confidence. Whether your baby is seven days old or seven weeks old, documenting this fleeting chapter gives your family an heirloom to cherish for generations.
I would be so honored to be a part of these precious moments with your family. Most mamas reach out during their second trimester so we can reserve a flexible spot on the calendar around their due date. When you’re ready to start planning your photo session for newborn portraits, send me a quick message. I can’t wait to welcome your family into the studio.
